N. A. Battaglia

BOOK reviews BY N. A. BATTAGLIA

In addition to writing horror, N. A. Battaglia also is an avid horror reader and aspiring reviewer.  As a result, he is reviewing primarily horror books and magazines at no charge and as he sees fit.  This includes books that he is personally reading on his own volition, and books that he is offered for review.  Reviews are posted below in alphabetic order by author last name or, where there is no author (i.e., a magazine), by the press’s name.  Anthologies are listed by the first editor’s last name or, where there is no named editor, anthology title.

Interested in getting your book or magazine reviewed?  Contact N. A. Battaglia to offer your publication for his review.  While reviews are free right now, there will be a charge in the future.

A NOTE ABOUT MY RANKING SYSTEM:

Books are reviewed on a scale of zero (being the lowest ranking) to five (being the highest ranking).  There are three categories of ranking, or leagues.  The reasoning behind this is that it would be manifestly unfair to hold John Doe’s first novel out of a brand new press against Stephen King and the established publishers mechanically churning his works with legions of editors.  The order of rankings include the following:

Ghosts – this ranking league is for publications by new/fledging presses or authors that are breaking into the market.

Werewolves – this league is for publications by established presses or authors, or for presses or authors with a big following or buzz who are up-and-coming or already establish in the genre, but maybe have assented to household names–yet.

Demons – this league is for publications that are mainstream presses or big-time authors, including award-winners and household names, authors with movies or other large media involvement, and unquestionably the most professional of writers.

Thus, it is axiomatic that a ranking of 5 out of 5 demons will likely be better than a 5 out of 5 ghosts, but, notwithstanding, that does not depreciate the achievement and excitement of a great story from a new author or press that achieves a perfect ghost score.
